Why did Colonel Gaddafi never give himself a promotion?

I think he did gave himself a promotion from lietenant to Colonel right after the coup he made. But he never made any further promotions . Gaddafi in the past few decades mostly presented himself as a leader, thinker, and philosopher. I can hardly see any hints of Gaddafi's military character. read more

Gaddafi was a captain in the Lbiyan Armed Forces when he staged a coup in 1969. Unlike some other military revolutionaries during the time period, Gaddafi did not promote himself to the rank of general upon seizing power, but rather accepted a ceremonial promotion from captain to colonel and remained at this rank. read more
