I don't think Napoleon really underestimated Russia. His plans for Russia was more in line with what he had done with the other European states (force them to subject themselves more or less as vassals of France) rather than to conquer it and crush the government and people like Hitler did. read more

How can Nazi Germany invade a country that had well over 160 million inhabitants, when their population had less than half of that. The odds seemed stacked well against you with those numbers. read more
