Why did it seem like only Voldemort and Snape could fly?

It could have been the reverse (Snape learning from Voldemort), but likely one learned from the other. So, that seems ultimately to be the answer. Most likely, the other answers about it not really being required contributed to the fact that the spell hadn't been invented, and thus that no one from the Order really cared to try it out. read more

In the Seven Potters chase scene, all of the characters use brooms / thestrals / motorcycle to fly except for Voldemort, and in singling him out in this way, J.K. Rowling illustrates just how awesomely powerful Voldemort is. Even Snape is shown (in the flashback in The Prince's Tale chapter) to be on a broom. read more

During the asking and answering of my question about people flying, one point has come up: Both Voldemort and Snape flew, seemingly on their own. However, in Quidditch Through the Ages, by J. K. Rowling (in other words, not fanfic or written as part of the franchise, but by the author herself), it specifically states that there is no known spell that can make humans fly. read more
