Actually the bones of the nose are attached to the human skull. Perhaps you mean why on a skull is the nasal bone not as long as the nose is. That's because the nasal septum - the plate that divides your nose into two halves has a bony component at the top and a cartilaginous part (the lower half) that cannot be left attached to the skull for the purpose of display. read more
