The airship was not used extensively in the second world war. The USA used a few for anti-submarine warfare. In the field, of aerial strategic bomardment, however, the airship had passed the baton to their erstwhile nemesis the aeroplane. read more
Airships were many things but fast and stealthy were not among any adjectives ever used to describe them. Also, efficient as lighter than air craft was not a strong suit. They each had enormous steel structures that were needed to contain the gas they used for lift and in comparison to the size of their loads they were much more devoted to the lift than to the load. read more
