In his letter to the Galatians Paul says that three years after his conversion he went up to Jerusalem and met Peter (Galatians 1:18). Paul the self appointed apostle believed that the law no longer applied. He only spoke of the metaphysical, that is a cosmic spiritual battle taking place in the heavens and earth. He believed Jesus was only a spiritual being and never spoke of him as being and actual human being. read more

So it's Paul who contested, with 'those from James', and James the Lesser, they were the real problem.
