The Roman Empire didn’t venture that far. The northern limit of the empire was in Germany. The reason they didn’t expand any more than that is because of the Germanic tribes living there who opposed them. The cost to benefit ratio wasn’t good enough for them to proceed. read more

Yes Germany was in the way and Scandinavia had nothing to interest the Romans. The first emperor Augustus made sustained efforts over two decades to conquer central Germany. His armies conquered, but did not fully pacify, the country. read more
