The origin of the word “Mumbai” comes from the word “Mumba Devi”, after the name of a local Goddess. The British, with their stiff upper lip and tight tongue (please excuse the puns here) could only pronounce it as “Bombay”. read more

The city was known as Bombay before it was changed to 'Mumbai' before 1995. So people still prefer to call it Bombay as that was the original name of the city and people like me grew up hearing that name. I still prefer calling it Bombay . As they say , some habits don't change. read more
