Why do actors feel the need to be political?

You know what drives me a little nuts about this particular line of questions on Quora? People act as though this was the first time a celebrity - actor, singer, athlete, whatever - has expressed opinions on something that is not acting. read more

Because they are so ubiquitous and (supposedly) respected, because they enjoy such a prominent amount of privilege, they can and do often feel the need to use that privilege to try and make a difference, whether it’s working with a charity to raise money, doing field work with that charity, or, yes, supporting a political candidate in some capacity. read more
