Most American military officers balked at the idea of Black soldiers in combat roles. Many thought that Black/African American soldiers were not as capable as White American soldiers. It has been said that German POWs were treated much better by the American military then the average Black/African American soldier. read more

In World War II, American men fought Germans – white men. Men like they themselves.
