” They do, and to address Heidi Cool’s comment: I grew up in a rural area, having left there about 40 years ago. Everyone always locked their doors. I currently live in another rural area. People here lock their doors, too. I'm curious as to where you got the idea Americans don't lock their doors. read more
The only house I can think of where I lock a door is at my dads house because his house is attached to his garage with the bathroom door so if you're in the garage and try to get into the house you have to step through the bathroom, so that makes me paranoid that people will try to walk through without knocking. read more
