Circular DNA and 70s ribosomes were the first clues that these organelles were evolved from prokaryotic cells. It is odd that parts of the cell have their own genome, but it was even more odd that their genomes had different characteristics. The mitochondria has 70S ribosomes which are seen in prokaryotes whereas eukaryotes have 80S ribosomes. In mitochondria the genetic material is present in the form of circular ring which is also seen in case of prokaryotes.
