I doubt an India in the 1940's - one which produced great world leaders like Ghandi - would be compatible with supporting a racist, militaristic country like Nazi Germany. Indeed, the Indian National Congress denounced Nazi Germany. read more
India did support Axis powers. The Indian independence can be easily seen as lead by Indian National Congress lead by Gandhi, this group believed in non-violence. Indian National Army lead by Subhash Chandra Bose, this group believed in war and struggle can also be means to get independence. read more
Bose suggested that there was little possibility of India being attacked by any of the Axis powers provided it did not fight the War on Britain's side. Captured soldiers of the British Indian Army who refused to join the INA were executed by the Japanese. read more
