Why do kids like markers better than crayons?

Markers have more impressive results than crayons, therefore kids are attracted to them. Markers are very hard to get off (see my hardwood floors with flowers in marker pens all over them). Crayons can be washed off, so the effect is not so impressive when Gran comes round. My kids seem to have a target to turn one hair grey on my head per week. read more

Over age 2-3, it may be an unconscious habit or need for oral stimulation. Similar to older children, teens and adults chewing on pencils and pens. Since younger children generally use crayons more than pencils, so crayons get bitten instead. read more
