Because a lot of people look unhealthy. I know of no evidence that doctors/nurses either are, or look, less healthy than the overall population. In the US, most adults look unhealthy because the rates of obesity, adult-onset diabetes, smoking, excess sun exposure, and other factors add up most people looking and being unhealthy. read more
There's ample evidence that the way doctors look, feel and behave may affect the way they treat and advise their patients. Studies have shown that many doctors and nurses fail to promote healthy behaviors in their patients, particularly if they are themselves poor health role models with unhealthy eating and exercise patterns, as well as stressful lives. read more
The only surgery-specific medication I take is an aspirin daily, since I got a porcine valve. If I had opted for a metallic valve would be probably taking Coumadin. read more
