It is the “win now” ethic that causes MLB teams to sign players to “bad” contracts. Then consider what is “bad”. CC, A-Rod and Tex gave the Yankees some great seasons early in their contracts, so it can be argued that they were not “bad” contracts. read more
Unlike in the NFL, MLB contracts are guaranteed, so players stand to earn all the money their teams have committed to them even if they are cut from the rosters.
