I love chess, have played it throughout my life and granted watching a full game of chess with standard time controls would be similar in time to a game of baseball or football with nothing but watch 2 ubergeniuses thinking for all of maybe 3-5 minutes of it, games that have faster time controls are more interesting to watch, and watching guys who are great at lightning/blitz play those kinds of games, which are only a few minutes long each, is exciting and fun to watch (and also play). read more

I do have one friend who used to hate baseball (NFL guy, thought baseball was boring/not actually athletic), but then he got really into the 2006 Mets and now he is a huge fan. So maybe you have to get lucky and start following a team right as they get really exciting. read more
