It's all about representation! The root cause of corruption in my mind is Pakistan's form of government. It's parliamentary and it's non representative. You vote for party A and you are anti party B. We have a sort of apathy about leaders. We willingly tolerate their misbehavior, and often follow them unquestioningly. The toxic leader appears initially as a seeming hero or savior, but soon begins the slide into corruption. This certainly is the profile of the recently toppled leaders. The only defense against corrupt leaders is to stand up to them. read more
Well written article. The countries which do "business" with Pakistan prefer Dictators as it is easy to push everything. But they pay lip service for democracy. Whether the country is under a Dictator or a "democratically" elected Government, corruption is all pervasive. In this game. both compete with each other. read more
