I say it was inconsequential because it is briefly mentioned and then dismissed. By the time Dune begins, it doesn't matter how the feud started or why, only that the two houses are blood enemies and always have been. Many people (subjective opinion) consider Herbert's Dune series to be far better than Anderson+Brian Herbert's prequels. As such, it should be read first. However, the in-quel books are well regarded and can be read together, in chronological order. read more
