For the same reason they look down on anything; some people attempt to vindicate or justify their particular set of labels by turning a (usually unfoundedly) disparaging eye on "the other." Others, hopefully the vast majority, have no such arbitrary need, and so do no such thing. read more

People in western societies, although not openly, look down on those in "underdeveloped" countries, who still have "primitive" peoples and people who are polytheistic or animistic. They often go there to convert them in order to "help" them. read more
