They are talking for the sake of talking. Usually that means someone is uncomfortable or nervous and trying to fill the silence with something so they can stop feeling nervous. So it could be that you are picking up on their feeling of uneasy and uncomfortable. read more
I don’t like the phrase, “introverts hate small talk.” How about, “introverts hate idle chit-chat without any substance or meaning.” I used to think small talk was only idle chit-chat until I read the book, “The Fine Are of Small Talk” by Debra Fine. Use small talk to your advantage. read more
