Your pupils expand because the iris’ muscle fibers pull the pupil to a neutral size, and because the body’s functions are done, the eyes are unresponsive to light. Therefore, I wouldn’t say that the pupils dilate, just that they rest as the iris uses the last energy to expand them. read more
