Why do they call Hockey Jerseys sweaters?

Maybe it's because if you play hockey with anything more than an itty-bitty amount of effort, you will sweat, buckets of sweat, unless you are dehydrated to begin with, even if the weather is fairly cold and you are playing outdoors. read more

From my understanding, you would traditionaly call them sweaters, because at the formation of the sport of hockey, the garments (sweater/ jersey) they wore were made out of wool (much like a sweater). read more
