Water will also exacerbate galvanic corrosion when dissimilar metals are used in the system. Lubrication: Hydraulic components use seals and often involve sliding interfaces (cylinders and spools, for examples). Should work okay. The stuff packaged as hydraulic jack oil is low viscosity. A lot of tractor hydraulics and some heavier earthmoving stuff uses hydraulic oil thats essentially the same viscosity as 10W motor oil. Jack oil looks about the same. The main thing is DON'T use brake fluid. read more
