Any type of music following the same style rules will tend to sound “the same” to someone who can’t recognise those rules. All Baroque music sounds alike to a new listener, as does Classical (capital C, like Haydn and Mozart), as does country, as does hip hop, as does heavy metal. read more

In the late 1930s and 40s, a genre of jazz called ‘swing’ came about which was less technical and was more dance music - think the difference between dance music today and, say, Adele. One of my favourite artists of this genre is Glen Millar. read more
