Calypso didn’t rescue Odysseus. She seduced him and held him captive on her island for 7 years. The only reason she releases him is because Athena petitions Zeus to free Odysseus. Only under the command of Zeus does Calypso release Odysseus and supplies him with a raft and provisions to continue his journey. read more
