Dry ice does not really react with water very much. A very small amount of the CO2 does dissolve in water forming carbonic acid, H2CO3, but this is a very weak acid. The dry ice sublimes at -78.5C (-109F) and releases about 700 times the solid volume of gas as the solid. read more

The reaction is based on the temperature of water. If the water is very hot, dry ice will fastly convert in to gaseous carbon di oxide. If the water is very cold, some amount of CO2 gas will dissolve and rest will become gaseous CO2. At NTP, entire dry ice will become CO2 gas. read more
