Why does fog melt snow?

Fog is like a cloud on the ground. The way they are formed is different though. Clouds are mainly formed by rising air where fog is a few different ways that cause the air to be cooled to a point where it releases excess water droplets. In the spring, snow cover can melt rapidly if warm, humid air pushes in above the snow and lowers the temperature of this humid air to the point that fog forms. The fog droplets forming at the snow surface release the latent heat of condensation, which helps to melt the snow. read more

When warmer air passes over colder ground, like snow, it causes fog. Just like in the summer it is opposite. When cooler air passes over the warmer ground again it causes fog. read more
