Every chinchilla is different and will have a different way of reacting to certain circumstances. In this case, there are several reasons why this may be happening: It could be nervous, or even scared, it may need more things to chew on, and it could be bored. read more

Chewing on cage bars helps trim teeth, but it's more so a neurotic behaviour. Pets will do it when they are bored and have nothing else to do. Sounds like you are taking her out plenty, but I would worry about the wheel. Chinchillas must have a working wheel, they should use it instinctively. read more

WARNING - If a chinchilla is regularly fed treats through the bars of its cage it can mistakenly take a finger or nose as a treat and accidentally bite you - the same can be said if you have the smell of treats on your fingers so always wash your hands before and after handling a chinchilla. read more
