Some dog breeds are more likely to grunt and snort like pigs than others. For example, Bulldogs, Boxers, Mastiffs, Pugs, Shit Zhus, and other dog breeds with short snouts. I've also heard that the snorting can be a backwards sneeze, which is the dog trying to get an allergen out of its system. read more

My beagle does this, and we took him to the vet because we were concerned. The vet mimicked the exact noise for us and told us that it was "backward sneezing". The dog is simply getting an allergen out of his system. If you are still concerned, or if your dog has other health issues, please see a veterinarian for professional advice. read more
