They are weevils (an insect), and not to worry, they are edible. They lay eggs in the rice and they hatch out into a wormlike larvae stage, in time they will pupate into a beetle stage. Get air-tight containers for everything that is cereal, such as flour, rice, corn meal, corn starch, oatmeal and, well, cereal. I’ve even found the moth larvae in sugar. Blech! (shudder). When you buy new rice, flour, sugar etc. put the box or bag in a plastic bag, close it with a twist tie and put it in the freezer for at least 48 hours. read more
