We speak french in the Congo because we were colonised by Belgium, a french speaking country. Our french ressembles that of Belgium, it's a little bit different from the french spoken in France, but it's still french nonetheless. But from Belgium we didn't only get french, as it's commonly believed. read more

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly called Zaire and the Belgian Congo - during the colonial period) speaks French because it was colonized by the Belgians.
