Because there are a hell of a lot more people in the US than Canada. Also, it is much harder to get a gun in Canada, especially hand guns. Now, if it's hard getting handguns in Canada, it's easy to get a knife or machete. People get stabbed a lot more then get shot in Canada. read more

In the same year, Canada’s population was approximately 34 million and 158 gun-related homicides. That’s roughly 1 death for every 28,000 people in the United States vs. 1 death for every 215,000 people in Canada. The United States owns more firearms than any country in the world — 270 million of them as of 2011. read more

Canada, on the other hand, ranks 13th on the study’s list, with 9.95 million firearms — or 31 per 100 residents. Moore is right that Canada has a far lower rate of firearm homicides than its neighbour to the south. read more
