Why doesn't Mexico have nuclear weapons?

Mexico is one of the few countries which has technical capabilities to manufacture nuclear weapons. However it has renounced them and pledged to only use its nuclear technology for peaceful purposes following the Treaty of Tlatelolco in 1968. read more

Mexico has had the knowledge for making nuclear material even before the year I was born and they were the main sponsors of the Tlatelolco treaty to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
