There's actually a reason why pilots don't have beards. It all boils down to oxygen. According to Federal Aviation Regulations Part 91.211, supplemental oxygen must be provided for the flight crew if cabin pressure altitudes above 12,500 feet are reached (planes with jet engines have cruising altitudes of 39,000 feet or higher). read more
The oxygen mask argument is nonsense. Hawaiian airlines pilots have beards. A pilot at my airline came up with some sort of medical excuse to wear a beard and many European pilots wear beards. The only reason you don't see more beard in the USA is that most Airlines in the US feel a beard looks less professional and make rules prohibiting them. read more
