The regular household 3-prong 120v AC outlet is all you need. So that's not the reason. Also, a less regular, but not unheard of 220v socket (such as is used for an electric clothes dryer, or stove) can also be used to charge about 5 times faster than the 120v outlet. read more

no we don't have the technology yet to make electric cars practical. A lot of research is being done by the auto manufacturers on batteries that could at least power a vehicle for 20 to 30 miles before recharging - we're not there yet. read more
