Basically, the saxophone is not widely used in orchestras because of business practices and politics of the 19th century Paris music scene. read more
Since then, saxophones have been used in orchestras, but not as commonly. if an orchestra decided to include saxophones, the orchestra would then have to either only play pieces written with saxophone parts or have the saxophones only play in certain pieces. Both of those options are not really too desirable. read more
