Because they are food, not drugs, toxins, or something else which should be banned or otherwise heavily controlled. One problem here is that sugars are a naturally occurring component of a lot of foods. Milk? Fruits? Vegetables? All have sugars in them. The FDA hasn’t prohibited sugar or HFCS because it is not the duty of the FDA (or any part of government) to tell people what they can or cannot eat. The fact that something, when eaten in excess over long periods, can cause chronic health problems is not sufficient reason to remove it from the food supply. read more

When purchasing packaged goods from a store, the high fructose corn syrup ingredient is listed, and I can choose not to buy those products. I should have the same right to know whether or not the food I eat in a restaurant contains high fructose corn syrup, and I can decline to purchase food at those establishments. read more
