Why is a group of mermaids called a gossip?

There isn't an official word for a group of mermaids. If I google "group of mermaids gossip" I get this question and "The Stoakes Whibley Index of Supernatural Collective Nouns", which appears to be a cute graphic made up by someone on the internet to assign collective nouns to fictional animals. read more

They are not necessarily mermaids, although they do have a tendency to be mythical women of some sort, depending upon the belief systems of the owners. They are uniformly referred to as figureheads. They have a stellar history. read more
