Why is CNN based in Atlanta?

Launched at 5AM Eastern time on June 1, 1980, CNN remained in that country club for five years before moving on to bigger studios in downtown Atlanta. CNN currently broadcasts primarily from NYC with studios in DC and LA. It's headquarters, CNN Center in Atlanta, is now only used for weekend programming. read more

The CNN Center is the world headquarters of CNN. The main newsrooms and studios for several of CNN's news channels are located in the building. The facility's commercial office space is occupied entirely by CNN and its sister company, Turner Broadcasting System, a subsidiary of AT&T Inc. since 2018.
