Why is Dallas called 'Triple D'?

I live in Dallas and have never heard it called triple D. I've heard it called Big D (with little D being Denton). Ive also heard the metroplex called the Golden Triangle, refering to Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton which form a triangle on the map. But Triple D is a new one for me. read more
