Why is it called the peanuts?

The name Li'l Folks was too close to the names of two other comics of the time: Al Capp's Li'l Abner and a strip titled Little Folks. Schulz probably appreciated not only the royalties from foreign countries, but the knowledge that especially in places where peanuts are not an important part of the diet or had no association with children, his strip was called something else: Rabanitos (“Little Radishes") in South America, Klein Grut (“Small Fry") in the Netherlands, and the unforgettable Snobben (“Snooty"), Sweden's rechristening of Snoopy. read more
