Why is Mozilla Firefox browser named as Firefox?

Firefox is named Firefox because Jason Kersey, an early contributor on the project, suggested the name during a re-naming brainstorming sessions in late 2003 at the first Mozilla office on Villa Street, in Mountain View, CA. read more

In response, the Mozilla Foundation stated that the browser should always bear the name Mozilla Firebird to avoid confusion with the database software. Continuing pressure from the Firebird community forced another change, and on February 9, 2004 the project was renamed Mozilla Firefox (or Firefox for short). read more
