The USSR and USA supported different political powers, and did not leave the Peninsula right away amidst the Cold War. Two new governments were created, one democratic (Seoul) and one communist (Pyongyang), and shortly after, North Korea invaded South Korea to unify the country by force. North and South Korea tried to merge together to become one, stronger nation. However negotiations went sour and North korea invaded the south. South Korea isn’t fighting against North Korea. South Korea wants an eternal peace and don’t want to get involved in any type of war against North Korea.
