Our universe has 3 dimensions of space plus 1 dimension of time. That makes our universe 4D. Apparently, using general relativity, it can be shown that life can not evolve in Universes with fewer dimensions. It depends on our perception, we humans are able to visualize/feel length breadth and depth, So we think we r in 3d. There may be many dimensions existing in the universe but we can't visualize/ feel and for some creatures which can't visulize world in 3d may think universe as 2d. read more
