It's not bad. Every font has its own characteristic, personality and is designed for a purpose, some can be specific and some can be very generic. Chris Costello described his goal as a font that would represent what English language texts would have looked like if written on papyrus 2000 years ago. Fonts go bad when people overuse it. read more

To add to Haim Gurov 's answer - Papyrus and its closely despised neighbor Comic Sans are actually system fonts. When you want something that's not goofy (i.e. comic sans), or standard, there's only one option: Papyrus. This, I believe, is the culprit for its rampant overuse. read more
