Why is puncturing food with chopsticks a cultural faux pas?

It is considered gauche to stab one's food with chopsticks in Japan, Korea, and China. I am not sure about other chopstick cultures, but I would guess this taboo is universal. Asian food is prepared for consumption with chopstick. read more

As one of 1.3 billion Chinese. I don't know that what the question describes is a cultural faux pas. Such things always associated with bad things in life. For example, I was not allowed to making sound with my chopsticks and bowls, which is a symbol of homeless beggars asking for food. read more
