The question is not whether Cigarettes are dangerous or not; the question is whether such a ban will be workable. Just because the government bans smoking doesn't mean the habit will stop. If tobacco was banned, people would find a way to distribute it anyway. People would grow the plant and process it, distribute it, and use it. The harmful side-effects would probably outweigh the benefit that came from the few people who would refrain from smoking just because it was illegal. read more

While a lot of people would still find means to smoke, the state wouldn't perceive tobacco related taxes anymore, but would have to hire exceptional amounts of police officers and costguards.
