Why is SRAM not used in smartphones as a primary memory?

I think you already know basics of RAM, if you don't know anything then you can read it here for more details. Now, I am going to tell you that why is SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) is not used in our smartphones? Static RAM is too fast as com... read more

These two points makes it suitable to use it but next two points are not. They takes a lot of space on chip to store same amount of data. Low Capacity. Higher manufacturing cost. As we know smartphones are going to slimier everyday so we don’t have a lot of space to put SRAM in it. Capacity and Price are also big problem in the way of SRAM. But we can expect that SRAM will be available in future phones. read more

Static random-access memory is a type of semiconductor memory that uses bistable latching circuitry to store each bit. SRAM exhibits data remanence, but it is still volatile in the conventional sense that data is eventually lost when the memory is not powered. The term static differentiates SRAM from DRAM which must be periodically refreshed. SRAM is faster and more expensive than DRAM; it is typically used for CPU cache while DRAM is used for a computer's main memory. read more
