Why is Stone Mountain considered a national park?

Stone Mountain (the geological feature owned by the State of Georgia) is not considered a National Park (except possibly by some demented KKK members). There is also Stone Mountain State Park in North Caroline and there is Stone Mountain Theme Park in Georgia. read more

Stone Mountain was once owned by the Venable Brothers and was the site of the founding of the second Ku Klux Klan in 1915. It was purchased by the State of Georgia in 1958 "as a memorial to the Confederacy."
